FallenKingdomReads’ list of five must-read science fiction books for fans of The Matrix.
This dystopian novel is the basis for the classic film Blade Runner, and it explores a world devastated by nuclear war where bounty hunter Rick Deckard must retire six rogue androids.
In this novel, human consciousness is digitized and can be transferred between bodies, leading to an interstellar conspiracy that draws the protagonist Takeshi into a thrilling adventure.
Due to its potential for in-situ resource utilization by future lunar exploration missions and other space missions, lunar surface water has attracted significant attention.
Now, a research group led by Prof. Sen Hu from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics (IGG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has found that impact glass beads in Chang’e-5 (CE5) lunar soils contain some water.
Detailed studies show that these glass beads are likely a new water reservoir on the Moon, recording the dynamic ingress and egress of solar wind-derived water and acting as a buffer for the lunar surface water cycle.
In this video, we explore the fascinating prospects of humanity becoming a proper interstellar civilization, up to Type III on the Kardashev scale. However, this transition process presents our species with a bunch of physical limitations, as well as societal and even biological implications. Many of them are quite unwanted or even ugly! We explore this vast topic by using the latest scientific models as well as the best science fiction worlds from books, TV shows, and even games. Speaking of which, to help us visualize this space-faring future with much-needed scale and fidelity, we turned to CCP Games — the creators of the massively multiplayer online game EVE Online. https://eve.online/Ridddle_EN. It is set in a rich sci-fi universe, where players can create their own character and explore a vast and complex virtual world built according to the well-thought set of consistent in-world rules The game is known for its intricate economy, politics, and warfare mechanics, where players can engage in a variety of activities, including mining resources, trading, building structures, and participating in battles. Quite frankly, the game feels like a real simulation of all those future endeavors humanity will face on the way to becoming a true interstellar species!
WASHINGTON, Nov 30 (Reuters) — In science fiction — think films and TV like “Interstellar” and “Star Trek” — wormholes in the cosmos serve as portals through space and time for spacecraft to traverse unimaginable distances with ease. If only it were that simple.
Scientists have long pursued a deeper understanding of wormholes and now appear to be making progress. Researchers announced on Wednesday that they forged two miniscule simulated black holes — those extraordinarily dense celestial objects with gravity so powerful that not even light can escape — in a quantum computer and transmitted a message between them through what amounted to a tunnel in space-time.
It’s time to explore what might be the ultimate starship! The Kugelblitz Black Hole Starship! Can you really create an artificial black hole? If so, how much energy would it generate, and how fast could it propel a ship across he galaxy? The answers are simply mind-blowing. #space #blackhole #interstellar.
“Of course, we need to finetune everything before we can apply it to humans. But I would say that 10 years is a realistic timeline,” Ngo-Anh said.
This fine-tuning is already underway. First studies have shown that it’s possible to induce torpor (opens in new tab) in otherwise non-hibernating animals, such as rats, and bring them safely back to life a few days later. The process of triggering hibernation is rather intricate and involves reduced exposure to daylight and a period of intense feeding followed by a strict fast.
The province, however, is seeking a solution to its future relevance taking baby steps of which CFGC is one. Having said this, it still is an important initiative that could have enormous Canada-wide impacts.
What is carbon fibre?
Carbon fibre is less than a tenth the thickness of human hair. It contains carbon atoms almost exclusively. It is lightweight yet strong and can be bundled with other carbon fibres, woven, pressed and moulded. Carbon fibre material can be turned into tubes for bicycles, tennis rackets, and golf clubs. As a sheet, it can be moulded and turned into body parts for automobiles and trucks. Today, it is in the wings of modern aircraft replacing aluminum and steel. It is in Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket. And in construction, it can be used instead of concrete, brick, wood, and even steel.
Rolls-Royce is now aiming to “have a reactor ready to send to the Moon by 2029.”
The UK Space Agency (UKSA) said on Friday it would invest a significant amount in Rolls-Royce’s project to produce nuclear power on the moon.
The government agency will now invest £2.9 million (around $3.52 million) in the project in order to “deliver an initial demonstration of a UK lunar modular nuclear reactor.”
