It’s Time to Think Beyond Cloud Computing

Posted by in categories: augmented reality, robotics/AI, transportation, virtual reality

That problem from the frontier of technology is why many tech leaders foresee the need for a new “edge computing” network—one that turns the logic of today’s cloud inside out. Today the $247 billion cloud computing industry funnels everything through massive centralized data centers operated by giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. That’s been a smart model for scaling up web search and social networks, as well as streaming media to billions of users. But it’s not so smart for latency-intolerant applications like autonomous cars or mobile mixed reality.

Cloud computing’s big, distant data centers can’t support VR and self-driving cars—but “edge computing” can.

US Navy Gunners Are Testing A Wearable Heads-Up Display

Posted by in categories: augmented reality, military, wearables

A service lab has turned a lieutenant’s brainstorm into a testable prototype dubbed the GunnAR augmented-reality headset.

In just a year, a wearable headset designed to help U.S. Navy gunnery sailors cut through the fog of combat has evolved from a lieutenant’s brainstorm to a prototype being tested in various exercises.

Conceived by a junior officer aboard the destroyer Gridley, the idea for GunnAR was presented at last year’s ONR Innovation Jam, where it received first prize — and $100,000 to make it real. After rapid progressions through various development milestones, the blue-tinted visor was put to the test in the Trident Warrior 2017 experiment aboard USS Bunker Hill, where sailors used it to put live fire on targets.

This mixed reality room is so trippy it might leave you questioning reality

Posted by in category: augmented reality

THÉORIZ studio is bringing an empty room to life with motion tracking and augmented reality. Projections in the room change as you interact with them. They offer environments like walking up stairs, pushing down walls, jumping on to surfaces or walking through doors that look like a portal. This could end up being one trippy ride.

Second version of HoloLens HPU will incorporate AI coprocessor for implementing DNNs

Posted by in categories: augmented reality, robotics/AI

By Marc Pollefeys, Director of Science, HoloLens

It is not an exaggeration to say that deep learning has taken the world of computer vision, and many other recognition tasks, by storm. Many of the most difficult recognition problems have seen gains over the past few years that are astonishing.

AI Creates Fake Obama

Artificial intelligence software could generate highly realistic fake videos of former president Barack Obama using existing audio and video clips of him, a new study [PDF] finds.

Such work could one day help generate digital models of a person for virtual reality or augmented reality applications, researchers say.

Gamification UX/UI — AR/VR

“The future of gamification is nearly here with virtual and augmented reality features and the addition of artificial intelligence. These elements can personalize the experience and continually increase the challenge involved to keep the audience hooked. “ https://www.forbes.com/sites/theyec/2017/06/22/how-to-add-ga…8cd53b5b3b

My mission statement is to push the boundries of the new tech tools that we are being given in the UX/ UI and prototyping design fields. This week I have been experimenting with Augemented and Virtual Reality. During the Summer Solstice I visited the Crystal Palace Dinosaurs and tested out a few augemented reality offerings using augmented reality dinosaurs to complement the existing dinosaur scenery and built the following website to include my examples and also to showcase A-Frame and Sketchfab which will be producing VR within websites which will be used for e-commerce and online shopping soon.
