Dr. Soodeh Farokhi
Soodeh Farokhi, Ph.D. is the Founder and CTO of C2RO Cloud Robotics, a cloud-based software robotics startup, based in Montreal, Canada. C2RO offers the world’s first Cloud Robotics SaaS Platform that provides cognitive AI augmentation for robots and other smart devices via an end-to-end software solution.
Since March 2018, Soodeh has been the Director and Board Member for C2RO Cloud Robotics. She was selected among the top 750 digital innovators in the world in 2018 by DataBird journal, and the top three young entrepreneurs in Quebec, Canada in 2018. Soodeh is a visionary technology entrepreneur and passionate about Cloud Robotics and applying AI to enable cognitive capabilities in low-cost service robots and smart devices to increase business efficiency and improve the quality of life. She is an energetic and strong leader who is committed to what she believes in and enjoys solving real-world problems with teamwork.
Before she founded her company, Soodeh was a technologist at TandemLaunch, a Canadian deep tech startup incubator.
Soodeh earned her Ph.D. in computer science in Jan 2016 from Vienna University of Technology, Austria with the thesis Quality of Service Control Mechanisms in Cloud Computing Environments. Her research addressed cloud computing resource management using autonomic computing, fuzzy logic, and control techniques. She is the author of over 14 research papers and a reviewer of over 13 scientific international conferences and journals.
She earned her M.Sc. and her B.Sc. in software engineering from Shahid Beheshti University, Iran, where she worked on service oriented technical solutions. Her Master’s Degree in Science (2011) was earned with her thesis “Semi-automated Model Driven Web Service Composition” and her Bachelor’s Degree in Science (2008) with the thesis “Designing and developing a software conductor for TV-Radio Programs”.
After her graduation in 2008, she started her professional experience as Software Engineer at a leading telecommunication company, named PeykAsa, which develops software nodes for cellular networks. She then worked there as product manager for 4 years.
In June 2011, Soodeh cofounded the SOEA (Service Oriented Enterprise Architecture) laboratory at Shahid Beheshti University in Iran. It is the first laboratory in the SOA domain in Iran whose goals are SOA & EAI investigation in industries and conducting practical research in these domains.
In 2013, Soodeh moved to Vienna (Austria) to pursue doctoral study and build up their international working experience. In Vienna, she was a Research Assistant, where she started her doctoral study at the doctoral college Adaptive Distributed Systems. She has been a research assistant at Faculty of Informatics, Vienna University of Technology for three years.
In her research, Soodeh focused on applying autonomic computing, fuzzy logic, and control techniques (from robotics and mechanical engineering) to make cloud applications self-adaptive and address cloud resource management. The goal of self-adaptive cloud applications is to provide an efficient trade-off between the utilized computing resources (e.g., memory and CPU) and the quality of service (e.g., application performance) at runtime.
She contributed to projects from various research groups including Software Technology and Interactive Systems, Electronic Commerce Group (EC), Distributed Systems Group (DSG) and Formal Methods in Software Engineering (Forsyte).
When Soodeh is not busy pursuing her passion and dream jobs, she is into traveling, photography, listening to music, reading, learning and discussing Astrophysics, Quantum & Particle Physics, Neuroscience, Artificial Intelligence, and Genetics.
