Volkan Topalli, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at Georgia State University; Faculty Associate, Partnership for Urban Health Research; Member, The International Centre for Research in Forensic Psychology (UK); Editorial Board Member, The Open Criminology Journal, and Member, Mprize 300.
 
Volkan’s research interests include:

• Drug markets and urban violence
• Offender decision-making and the psychology of crime
• Experimental work with active, noninstitutionalized street offenders
• Community responses to neighborhood crime (drugs, violence, etc)

He authored When being good is bad: An expansion of neutralization theory and The Seductive Nature of Autotelic Crime: How Neutralization Theory Serves as a Boundary Condition for Understanding Hardcore Street Offending, and coauthored A review of the powers of bail bond agents and bounty hunters: Exploring legalities and illegalities of quasi-criminal justice officials, “Might Not Be a Tomorrow”: A Multi-Methods Approach to Anticipated Early Death and Youth Crime, and The Impact of Implicit Stereotyping on Offender Profiling: Unexpected Results From an Observational Study of Shoplifting.
 
Volkan earned his B.S. in Psychology (Neuroscience) at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1989, his M.S. in Experimental Psychology at Tulane University in 1994, and his Ph.D. in Experimental Social Psychology at Tulane University in 1998.
