Tam Hunt, J.D.

Tam Hunt, J.D. is a renewable energy lawyer and policy expert, and a writer with a background in biology and philosophy. He is Founder and Owner at Community Renewable Solutions.

Among other things, he writes for the Life Extension Advocacy Foundation (LEAF) and runs a blog on Medium.com called Forever Young? devoted to the science, technology, and philosophy of combating aging. He is the author of a number of books and peer-reviewed articles on renewable energy, philosophy, and spirituality.

Tam considers himself a serious scholar in the philosophy of mind, the philosophy of biology, and the philosophy of physics. He is affiliated with UC Santa Barbara’s Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences.

Tam is the Founder and Owner of Community Renewable Solutions since 2009. They consult on renewable energy policy, project development, and offer legal assistance and legislation. They are also a solar broker, matching buyers and sellers of solar and energy storage projects.

He is the author of Solar: Why Our Energy Future Is So Bright, a book on the future of solar, energy storage, electric vehicles, and self-driving vehicles and Eco, Ego, Erog: Essays in Philosophy, Spirituality, and Science.

Since 2015, Tam has been the CEO at Solar Trains, where they develop customized solutions for electrical rail systems. Prior to this, he was the Energy Program Director at Community Environmental Council for 4 years.

Tam earned his Doctor of Law Degree in 2001 from the University of California School of Law in Los Angeles. He focused on environmental and international law. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology in 1998 from the University of California in San Diego.

He was a lecturer at UCSB’s graduate program at the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management from 2007 to 2014, where he focused on climate change law and policy and renewable energy law and policy.
