Professor Siva G. Somasundaram

Siva G. Somasundaram, MSc, Ph.D. joined Salem University in 2016 to maintain and rejuvenate its Biology program. He previously served as the Director and Professor of Biological Sciences for undergraduate studies at University of Houston-Victoria, where he taught genome sciences as part of the MS in Biomedical Science program comprising 19 advanced courses and he received the Enron Teaching Excellence Award (2014).
 
He served for various university committees including the assessment committee for accreditation. He was selected as a National Institutes of Health (NIH) regional fellow to conduct Inside Cancer Workshops during 2009–2010. He received US Department of Agriculture (USDA) grants in 2006 for studying the effect of citrus limonin on the transcriptomic profiling metastasis breast cancer genome. He received the UHV-Research Excellence Award for his research endeavor by his peers in 2010.
 
Siva did a feasibility study and presented a YouTube video on reducing hurricane impact on the US Gulf Coastal Plain. This study is still waiting for further explorations to save humanity along the US Gulf Coast.
 
Siva has 37 years of research experience, has published 45 peer-reviewed research articles, and is the editor of the book Natural Products Interactions on Genomes, CRC Press 2015. He also published Biological Transformation Controlled by the Mind and was interviewed by Romanian television about it. ResearchGate documents the feasibility of this book for upward bound healthy human aging. This book may have direct impact on the Lifeboat Foundation mission and vision.
 
He served as a Senior Research Fellow at University of Washington-Seattle and Research Associate at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He was an academic visitor at Imperial College, London. He was a visiting scientist at MRC-Clinical Research Center, Harrow, United Kingdom and served as an associate clinical biochemist at Kings College Hospitals, Kings College, London and received research experience in gastroenterology and taught medical graduates at PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, as an Associate Professor for Biochemistry.
 
Siva served as a senior research fellow in the Siddha Medicine department at Tamil University, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. He received the Hari Ohm Ashram gold medal for his clinical research on diabetes and on arthritis while in India. He received his Ph.D. from Madurai Kamaraj University. He earned his MSc Integrated Biology at its School of Biological Sciences and his BSc at Saraswathi Narayanan College,. He did his pre-university at The American College, Madurai, Tamil Nadu. He received his high school diploma from Gurugnana Sambandhar Hindu High School, Srivilliputtur, and was born and hails from Rajapalayam, Tamil Nadu.
