Dr. R. Paul Schaudies

R. Paul Schaudies, Ph.D. GenArraytion’s President and Chief Executive Officer, founded and managed the Biological and Chemical Defense Division at SAIC.

GenArraytion identifies informative biomarkers within the genomes of organisms of interest and screens thousands of them simultaneously to develop high fidelity signatures that provide a functionally complete characterization. These competencies are being used to produce rapid turn-around, accurate, reliable diagnostics for pathogen identification, and antibiotic susceptibility characterization. Microorganism-specific signatures provide high confidence pathogen identification and determination of virulence mechanisms and antibiotic susceptibility in a single test.

Paul is an internationally recognized expert in biotechnology and nanotechnology, serving on eight National Research Council committees on varied aspects of these technology areas.He. spent four years in the Intelligence Community, nine years in industry prior to becoming CEO of GenArraytion.

In addition to his NRC service, Paul was the science advisor to the EPA On-Scene Coordinator and Incident Commander at the Anthrax incident in Washington, DC. He supported the United Nations as an UNSCOM inspector in Iraq. He spent thirteen years as an active duty Army officer and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the USAR. He has served on numerous advisory committees for government agencies including DARPA and DOE and has served as chairman for various conferences, including several Gordon Research Conferences.

While on active duty in the US Army, he served as a Program Manager for Biological and Chemical Defense Research, a Senior Researcher at the Walter Reed Army Institute for Research and the Chief of the General Support Laboratory in the Department of Clinical Investigation at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

He authored Identification of Biological Warfare (BW) Threat Agents Using Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) Microarrays, and coauthored Purification and molecular cloning of a secreted, Frizzled-related antagonist of Wnt action, Modification of immunoreactive EGF and EGF receptor after acute tubular necrosis induced by tobramycin or cisplatin, Tubular injury and regeneration in the rat kidney following acute exposure to gentamicin: a time-course study, Differential effects of an antiserum to epidermal growth factor on the development of transplanted rat embryos and fetal structures in vivo, and Surface Transportation Security, Volume 10: A Guide to Transportation’s Role in Public Health Disasters.

Paul earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Wake Forest University and his doctoral degree from the Temple University School of Medicine in the Department of Biochemistry. He invented the patent Method for detecting a biological entity in a sample.
