Dr. Moon J. Kim
Moon J. Kim, Ph.D. is Professor of Materials Science and
Engineering,
University of Texas at Dallas. He is
the Director of the University of Texas at Dallas’ (UTD’s)
new Nano-Characterization Facility. He is also an adjunct professor at
the UT Southwestern Simmons Cancer Center. He earned his Ph.D.
(1988) in Materials Science from Arizona State University
(ASU).
Moon’s expertise includes high resolution electron microscopy and
heterogeneous materials integration by wafer bonding. He has conducted
extensive interdisciplinary materials research involving
state-of-the-art HREM which is an essential tool for nanoscience and
nanotechnology. He also has designed and built a unique ultra high
vacuum (UHV) wafer bonding unit. He has authored/coauthored over 150
refereed papers, and given over 45 invited lectures and seminars at
National/International conferences, Universities and Research
Institutes. He is a member of the Microscopy Society of America,
Materials
Research Society, and IEEE.
He supervises UTD’s
Nano & Beyond Research Laboratory. His primary
research focus is nano-fabrication and the manipulation and
characterization of materials for electronic and photonic applications.
His current research in the lab includes heterogeneous materials
integration by wafer bonding, nanoscale strains in Si CMOS, ultra low-k
dielectrics, scaled microelectromechanical
systems/nano-electromechanical systems (MEMS/NEMS), nano-electronic
materials, nano-medicine, and nano-studio.
