Jennifer McCartney, M.A.

Jennifer McCartney, M.A. is a New York Times bestselling Canadian author. She has written about utopias and time machines, and has covered culture, business travel, train travel, publishing, and tech for trade and consumer publications.

Jenn is the author of six books, including her first and bestselling novel Afloat published by Hamish Hamilton when she was 27, as well as Cocktails for Drinkers, Poetry from Scratch, and the parody The Joy of Leaving Your Sh*t All Over the Place, a New York Times bestseller which has been published in five languages. In August 2018, she published The Little Book of Sloth Philosophy which gets you to relax, unwind, and soak up the wisdom of the sloth with the slowest page turner you’ll ever read.

Her cookbooks have been featured on QVC and have sold more than 50,000 copies. Her writing has been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and appeared in the Atlantic, Architectural Digest, Vice Magazine, Curbed, Publishers Weekly, Backpacker Magazine, the Globe and Mail, Teen Vogue, TechRadar, and CBC. She is a regular contributor to Publishers Weekly.

As senior editor at a Manhattan-based book publishing company, Skyhorse Publishing, Jenn worked on and acquired more than 200 works by authors including Pierre Berton, Richard Ford, Hakan Günday, Jenna Jameson, Farley Mowat, and Leslie Zemeckis. Her authors have appeared on Oprah and been interviewed and reviewed in outlets including CNN, Washington Post, Vanity Fair, New York Post, and Forbes.

She specializes in content marketing and development. Her clients include PRWeek, Northstar Travel Media, WE Communications (formerly Waggener Edstrom), Skift, FutureUS, and Turn, among other companies.

Born and raised in Hamilton, a small town in Ontario, Canada, she has lived in Ohio, Michigan, South Carolina, Utah, and New Jersey, as well as Glasgow, Scotland. She has held 27 jobs including at a ski resort, an amusement park, and on an island in the Great Lakes. She is a graduate of Glasgow University where she earned her Master’s of Arts in creative writing with a minor in whiskey. Jenn earned her Bachelor’s of Arts in 2004 with Honors in English Language and Literature. She currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.
