Erik Postnieks, MBA
Erik Postnieks, MBA
is CEO at Wooster Asset Management, LLC (Angel Investing).
Erik has been a professional investor since 1994. He has
fourteen years of experience managing his own systematically traded
hedge funds. He is now an angel investor in high tech startups and is
an investment advisor for long-short equity portfolio.
Erik earned a B.A. in Economics from Cornell University in 1988 and an
MBA from The Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth
College in 1993. He graduated from the December 2010 Executive Program
at Singularity University at the NASA Ames Research Center. Singularity
University’s mission is to assemble, educate, and inspire leaders who
understand and develop exponentially advancing technology to address
humanity’s Grand Challenges.
Erik started his investment management career at Bankers Trust
(1993–1996), where he was co-portfolio manager of a $2 billion
derivatives structured products portfolio.
He specialized in at least ten areas of market inefficiencies during
the 1997–2003 time period at his own quantitative hedge fund advisory
firm, PCM, which he closed in September 2003 to focus on a single, more
consistent market anomaly.
In 2004, Erik decided to focus his exclusive attention to the forward
rate bias market anomaly (the tendency for high interest rate currencies
to appreciate against low interest rate currencies) and started Wooster
Asset Management, LLC. He found that the global markets were driven by
risk appetite, which could be very precisely monitored by the daily
performance of an optimized basket of “carry” currencies. WAM’s risk
management process was built entirely on risk appetite, a concept Erik
believes to be far superior to value-at-risk or any methodology based on
modern portfolio theory. In 2009, Erik started a global macro hedge fund
which allocated capital across a wide range of asset classes based on a
quantitatively driven risk regime map.
In May 2010, he closed Wooster Asset Management hedge funds and
returned assets to his investors. He recognized that areas of high
technology that are progressing at an exponential rate contained the
potential to radically improve the health, happiness, and prosperity of
mankind and decided to invest his portfolio accordingly.
Since June 2010, Erik has specialized in identifying and investing in
technology startup companies that stimulate groundbreaking, disruptive
thinking and solutions aimed at solving some of the planet’s most
pressing challenges. He attended Singularity University’s Executive
Program in December 2010 and plans to move to the Park City, UT in the
summer of 2011 to pursue his Silicon Valley business and family
interests.
