Dr. Edmondo Minisci

Edmondo Minisci, Ph.D. is Director of the Intelligent Computational Engineering Laboratory (ICE-Lab).

Ed is also affiliated with the Centre for Future Air-Space Transportation Technology (cFASTT), His projects include: a) global optimization of trans-atmospheric and interplanetary trajectories, b) uncertainty-based multidisciplinary design optimization of space transportation systems and wind turbines, and c) modelling and simulation of (re-)entering space objects (space-debris and asteroids).

Ed is also:

  • Departmental Coordinator for HPC resources.
  • Member of the Faculty of Engineering Board of Study at the University of Strathclyde.
  • Associated member of the International Society for Structural and Multidisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Optimization (ISSMO).
  • Member of the Continuous Optimization Working Group of EURO (EUROPT) — From July 2016 elected member of the Managing Board.
His papers include An inflationary differential evolution algorithm for space trajectory optimization, MOPED: a multi-objective Parzen-based estimation of distribution algorithm for continuous problems, Analysis of some global optimization algorithms for space trajectory design, On testing global optimization algorithms for space trajectory design, Minimum-fuel/minimum-time maneuvers of formation flying satellites, Multi-objective evolutionary optimization of subsonic airfoils by kriging approximation and evolution control, and Aerodynamic performances of propellers with parametric considerations on the optimal design.

Ed earned his Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering at Politecnico di Torino in 1998 and his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering at Politecnico di Torino in 2004.
