Dr. Douglas W. Jacobson

Douglas W. Jacobson, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Iowa State University. He joined the faculty in 1985 after earning a PhD degree in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University in 1985.
 
Doug is currently the director of the Iowa State University Information Assurance Center, which has been recognized by the National Security Agency as a charter Center of Academic Excellence for Information Assurance Education. He is also director of the proposed NSF I/U CRC Center for Information Protection and the Internet-Scale Event and Attack Generation Environment (ISEAGE).
 
Doug also works with local law enforcement and is a computer forensics analyst for the Iowa State University Police department. His current funded research is targeted at developing robust countermeasures for network-based security exploits and large scale attack simulation environments. A few funded projects have led to patents and have been successfully transferred industry.
 
Related, he is the founder of Palisade Systems, Inc., an Ames-based company marketing Internet management and security devices. He has received two R&D 100 awards for his security technology and has two patents in the area of computer security. He has given over 30 presentations in the area of computer security and has testified in front of the U.S. Senate committee of the Judiciary on security issues associated with peer-to-peer networking.
 
Doug coauthored Bounding delay on a multifarious token ring network. His patents include Network connection blocker, method, and computer readable memory for monitoring connections in a computer network and blocking the unwanted connections and Network security bridge and associated method.
