David Houlding, MSc, CISSP, CIPP
David Houlding, MSc, CISSP, CIPP is the Principal Healthcare Lead of the Microsoft Azure Industry Experiences Team. David has more than 24 years of experience in healthcare spanning provider, payer, pharmaceutical, and life sciences segments worldwide, and has deep experience and expertise in blockchain, cloud computing, privacy, security, compliance, and AI/ML.
He is the Chair of the HIMSS Blockchain in Healthcare Task Force. The HIMSS Blockchain in Healthcare Task Force is 50+ leaders from across healthcare provider, payer, pharma, life sciences, and industry partners collaborating to move blockchain forward across healthcare globally.
He is an Advisor to the British Blockchain Association. As a member of the BBA Advisory Board, he is responsible for advising the BBA on blockchain, DLT, strategies, healthcare use cases, and blockchain concerns including privacy, security, compliance, performance, interoperability, deployment, and other aspects. The BBA is a not-for-profit organization that has been set up to promote the comprehensive adoption of blockchain technology across the public and private sectors in the United Kingdom.
David worked at Intel Corporation for over 11 years. He worked in the Security and Privacy sector as a researcher which led to becoming Director of Healthcare Privacy and Security. His main areas of focus were privacy, security, compliance, blockchain, and artificial intelligence leadership for the Health and Life Science (HLS) industry globally. He leads research by defining strategy, roadmaps, reference architectures, solution incubation, prototypes, pilots, and sales and marketing field support for the HLS sector.
He established the Intel Healthcare Security Readiness Program, an open industry collaboration of over 40 major industry partners worldwide, enabling over 187 HLS organizations across 9 countries to benchmark their security against peers and the industry.
In 1994, David earned his Master of Applied Science at Simon Fraser University near Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, with research and a thesis focused on data compression and digital signal processing. In 1991, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering and graduated Cum Laude from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He currently holds CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), and CIPP (Certified Information Privacy Professional) credentials.
David is the inventor of five patents, System and method for customizing a core product, Method and system for providing visualization of underlying architecture of a software system, Method and system for providing security to a client server operating a browser, and Insight architecture visualization tool, System and method for delivering web services using common object request broker architecture.
He has authored and coauthored over 60 webcasts and papers including Health Information at Risk: Successful Strategies for Healthcare Security and Privacy, Healthcare costs are skyrocketing!
