David Evans
David Evans is
Chairman at
DSEA (Discover Science, Engineering, and Arts).
He won the
2022 Sir Arthur Clarke Award for Education and Outreach Individual.
Dave’s lifelong quest to push the limits of human potential has fueled
an unorthodox engineering career devoted to advancing society both on
Earth and in space.
After serving in the British Army, as a Combat Medic and witnessing
humanity’s capacity for both war and peace, Dave set his sights on the
stars, driven by a belief in progress through science, understanding and
reason, not just for a select few but for all of mankind.
After serving as a combat medic, Dave pivoted successfully to aerospace
engineering. He studied aerospace engineering, and design, where his
innovative thinking shone. Dave has collaborated with organizations
worldwide on bold projects including conceptualizing the space elevator
and supporting designs for the first lunar settlements.
He believes that humanity’s quest for the stars is, at its core, a
humanitarian endeavour, and that the technology that’s being built to
take us to new horizons also brings with it humanity’s hopes, dreams, and
aspirations. Those who go to these new frontiers will eventually take
with them our dreams, hopes, and aspirations. Our fundamental reason for
venturing out is a humanitarian one.
Some would argue that he is the living ancestor of Montgomery “Scotty”
Scott but Dave is not only an engineer and dreamer of audacious dreams.
He is above all a humanitarian who believes deeply in uplifting the
vulnerable and forgotten.
In recent years, he has focused his
engineering, and managerial talents on serving marginalized communities
globally. He has spearheaded educational programs that have reached
thousands of children in conflict zones in the Middle East, providing
STEM resources for schools, Teddy Bears for refugee children, and
inspiration where few dare to venture.
Dave is one of the few British
citizens honoured with both the prestigious Sir Arthur Clarke Education
Award and the British Citizen Award for these humanitarian efforts.
Aside from his work in engineering, Dave has also worked on movies, TV
shows, animations, writing, and digital archaeology.
While charting humanity’s path to the stars, Dave never loses sight of
people’s capacity for compassion. He firmly believes that engineering
exists not only to push scientific limits but to lift up people
worldwide through knowledge and empowerment.
Dave exemplifies an
unyielding faith that progress in space and on Earth can uplift humanity
together. His humanitarian spirit endures regardless the challenges he
faces, from his deployments in the Army to the cosmos he continues to
explore.
Dave continues to explore new frontiers. What the future holds for him
is unknown except that he “can not change the laws of physics” but we can
bend them to build the impossible.
