Allison Duettmann, M.S. is the President, Executive Director, and AI Safety Researcher at the Foresight Institute, Founder at Existential Hope, and Co-Producer of TEDx Echo Park. The most recent paper she coauthored is Cyber, Nano, and AGI Risks: Decentralized Approaches to Reducing Risks.
Allison is focused on creating a Moral Framework for Artificial Intelligence. She is interested in applying good philosophy to guide disruptive technologies toward the long-term flourishing of sentient life and believes that mind-boggling events like TEDx are a great channel to marry ideas with practice.
Foresight Institute is a nonprofit trying to advance technologies that could bring the long-term flourishing future of life. Allison leads and focuses on the programs of Nanotechnology and Molecular Machines, Biotechnology for Health Extension, and Computer Science for Intelligent Cooperation.
At the Institute she conducts research, authors reports, and hosts invitational technical meetings, external workshops, and public salons.

Allison shares Foresight’s work with the public, e.g. at the Wall Street Journal, SXSW, O’Reilly AI, WEF, The Partnership on AI, Effective Altruism Global, and TEDx. She coedited the book Artificial Superintelligence: Coordination & Strategy, and is collaborating on another book on Intelligent Voluntary Cooperation.
She is a member of Effective Altruism Global, a project by The Centre for Effective Altruism. EA Global is the conference series for the effective altruism community.
Allison has been Advising the EthicsNet on Datasets for machine ethic algorithms since 2018, and since 2017, she has been the Founder at Existential Hope. Her current research focus at Existential Hope is creating positive long-term pathways for humanity, and the reduction of Existential Risks, especially macro strategy, AI safety, and cybersecurity. She keeps an index of readings, podcasts, organizations, and people that inspire an optimistic long-term vision for humanity. The index is collaborative and for everyone who wants to improve the world but doesn’t know where to start.
Allison holds a Summa Cum Laude M.S. from the London School of Economics, where she specialized in risk management for Artificial General Intelligence. She hosted and planned TEDx, panels, workshops, exhibitions, debates, and conferences for governments, companies, think tanks, NGOs, and the public in Germany, France, Colombia, the UK, and the US.
Previously she was Analyst at Z_punkt The Foresight Company in 2016, Analyst at Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp (today known as Frontera Energy) until 2014, Research Assistant at the Institute of Ideas, and Policy Analyst at the Government of Medellin, Colombia.
Allison earned her B.A. in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the University of York in 2014. She earned her Summa Cum Laude M.S. from the London School of Economics. In her 1st class dissertation, she used natural language processing (NLP) to construct a moral framework for Artificial General Intelligence.
