Professor José María Díaz Nafría
José María Díaz Nafría, Ph.D. is currently
visiting professor at the Munich University of Applied Sciences,
investigator at the University of León(Spain) and at the Universidad
Estatal Península de Santa Elena (Ecuador). He is cofounder and
coordinator of the BITrum Research Group for the interdisciplinary Study
of Information (Spain), Vice-President of Communications of the
International Society for Information Studies, board of directors of the
Science of Information Institute (USA), member of the Unified Theory of
Information Research Group (UTI, Austria), board of the Institut für
Design Science (Germany), Fellow of the Bertalanffy Center for the Study
of Systems Science (Austria), and Board of the International Center for
Information Ethics.
He was research fellow at the Vienna University of Technology and at the
Technical University of Madrid. He also served as professor at the
University Alfonso X el Sabio in Madrid between 1997 and 2009. He has
been visiting lecturer at Mälardalen University (Sweden), University of
Furtwangen (Germany), and Sankt Pölen University of Applied Sciences
(Austria). Since 2008 he has organized or co-organized many
international activities related to the interdisciplinary study of
information and systems. He currently coordinates the glossariumBITri
(interdisciplinary glossary of concepts, metaphors, theories, and
problems concerning information) and belongs to the scientific board of
several scientific journals in the field of information and systems.

José earned his MSc in telecommunication engineering from the Universidad
del País Vasco, Bilbao, Spain in 1995, and earned his Ph.D. in
telecommunication engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid
in 2003 with a dissertation on “Contributions to the electromagnetic inverse
problem”. He was also awarded with a M.A. in Philosophy by the
Universidad Nacional de Educació a Distancia (UNED) in 2008.
His research focus is Philosophy of science and engineering, Science of
Information, Information ethics, Information Society, Observation &
Measurement Problem, Inverse problem, Communication theory, and Systems
Science and Complexity.
