Markes listened to the first three stops from the robοt in his native language and the rest in English from a human tour guide.

“I should thank Persephone, our robot, she said very fine things,” said Christos Tenis, a Greek visitor. “I’m impressed by the cave. Of course, we had a flawless (human) guide, she explained many things. I’m very impressed.”

Persephone is not the only technology used inside the cave. There’s a cellphone app in which a visitor, scanning a QR code, can see the Alistrati Beroni. That’s a microorganism that is only found in this cave, in the huge mounds of bat droppings left behind when the cave was opened and the bats migrated elsewhere.

Humanoid Robot Keeps Getting Fired From His Jobs https://spanish.lifeboat.com/blog/2021/07/humanoid-robot-keeps-getting-fired-from-his-jobs https://spanish.lifeboat.com/blog/2021/07/humanoid-robot-keeps-getting-fired-from-his-jobs#respond Fri, 16 Jul 2021 01:22:54 +0000 https://lifeboat.com/blog/2021/07/humanoid-robot-keeps-getting-fired-from-his-jobs

SoftBank’s humanoid robot had big career plans, including a job at a bank and dancing with the elderly. Ask about Pepper these days, though, and the conversation gets awkward.

European Robotic Arm https://spanish.lifeboat.com/blog/2021/07/european-robotic-arm https://spanish.lifeboat.com/blog/2021/07/european-robotic-arm#respond Tue, 06 Jul 2021 15:22:36 +0000 https://lifeboat.com/blog/2021/07/european-robotic-arm

Concept I introduced long ago in TMP2 as the Inchworm orbital service robot is now being demonstrated by the ESA with the new Russian addition to the ISS.

It is much like a human arm. It has an elbow, shoulders and even wrists. The European Robotic Arm (ERA) is the first robot able to ‘walk’ around the Russian segment of the International Space Station.

Light yet powerful, the orbital arm has the ability to anchor itself to the Station and move back and forward by itself, hand-over-hand between fixed base-points. This space robot looks like a pair of compasses and has a length of over 11 m. When stretched, it could pass a football from a penalty spot to the goalkeeper.

The robot will serve as main manipulator on the Russian part of the Space Station. Its seven joints can handle multi-tonne payloads with a large range of motion for assembly tasks.

Researchers from Baidu Research and the University of Maryland have developed a robotic excavator system that integrates perception, planning, and control capabilities to enable material loading over a long duration with no human intervention.

New Cheap Electric Cars Show How Automakers Are Conning The U.S. Market, Inflating Prices https://spanish.lifeboat.com/blog/2021/04/new-cheap-electric-cars-show-how-automakers-are-conning-the-u-s-market-inflating-prices Thu, 01 Apr 2021 16:23:18 +0000 https://lifeboat.com/blog/2021/04/new-cheap-electric-cars-show-how-automakers-are-conning-the-u-s-market-inflating-prices

European automaker Renault debuted its new cheap electric cars, the Kwid series, in India for a little over $6000 USD. The incredibly low price has left many consumers wondering why certain counties have access to cheap EV cars, while buyers in Europe and the United States are expected to pay more than quadruple that price for similar vehicles. It turns out there is a conspiracy and Europeans and North Americans who want electric cars are getting gouged by automakers, and it all has to do with gaining access to new markets.

The Kwid specifications are nearly identical to a Dacia, also a Renault brand. The difference: a European Dacia is double the price of an Indian Kwid. Meanwhile, the U.S. market misses entirely on either of these vehicles. The only electric cars available in America are dominated by premium brands and high price tags, making them unaffordable for most.

Cheap electric cars are available. The question is, why are Americans and Europeans being ripped off by electric vehicle manufacturers?

ICON and NASA bring lunar infrastructure closer with world’s first 3D printed rocket pad https://spanish.lifeboat.com/blog/2021/03/icon-and-nasa-bring-lunar-infrastructure-closer-with-worlds-first-3d-printed-rocket-pad Mon, 22 Mar 2021 18:22:18 +0000 https://lifeboat.com/blog/2021/03/icon-and-nasa-bring-lunar-infrastructure-closer-with-worlds-first-3d-printed-rocket-pad

Texas-based construction company ICON has delivered what it hails as the “world’s first” 3D printed lunar launch and landing pad to NASA, bringing its goal of creating an off-world construction system for the moon a step closer.

Working with a team of students from 10 colleges and universities across the US, ICON used its proprietary technology to 3D print a reusable landing pad using materials found on the moon. The partners recently conducted a static fire test of the rocket pad with a rocket motor at Camp Swift, a Texas Military Department location just outside of Austin.

“This is the first milestone on the journey to making off-world construction a reality, which will allow humanity to stay – not just visit the stars,” said Michael McDaniel, Head of Design at ICON.
